Information Services

Data

THA's information services department provides timely data and information to association members for planning and evaluation, and other association divisions for member advocacy and education.

Information services manages the THA Health Information Network (HIN), which was formed by THA in 2000 to assist member hospitals in meeting the requirements for UB discharge data reporting mandated by state law. Through partnerships with other associations and leading industry vendors, the THA HIN provides members with the additional products, services, consulting and technical support they need to improve their facilities' efficiency, effectiveness and quality of care.

The department also maintains a variety of datasets, including:

  • Statewide UB discharge databases and specific special reports available through the THA HIN.
  • Data collected from the Joint Annual Report of Hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
  • THA Sanctions Databank, which offers web-based access to the OIG Cumulative Sanctions Database.
  • Hospital data from the annual American Hospital Association (AHA) survey.

Health Information Exchange

This area provides information and assistance to Tennessee hospitals as they prepare to engage in the exchange of health information among caregivers or participate in a local or regional health information exchange (HIE). This program currently is providing leadership to the Middle Tennessee region as it implements the eHealth Connect regional health information organization. In addition, this program supports rural hospitals’ use of health information technology (HIT) as a tool to improve safety, quality, efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery. Assistance will be provided for the adoption and effective use of HIT, creation of sustainable business models for deploying HIT in hospital networks and enhancing the ability to leverage additional resources, as well as improving quality and performance improvement.
