Advocacy and Government Relations

Advocacy and representation are the cornerstones of THA’s planning and policy development process. THA maintains strong relationships with all member institutions, striving to represent their unique interests while working together toward common goals.

The small and rural membership constituency section meets at least once each year. The group makes recommendations on programs to meet specific needs of small and rural hospitals, taking into consideration the current THA programs and future needs of the association. The recommendations then are forwarded to the association’s board of directors. The constituency section also elects one member to serve on the THA board of directors.

To work on specific projects, such as TennCare, THA appoints special task forces and works with its psychiatric constituency section. The THA chairman appoints members to the government affairs, data and nursing councils to review ongoing programs and make specific recommendations for the coming year. The task force and council recommendations then are sent to the THA board of directors for consideration.
