T.O.N.E. is an affiliate group of Tennessee Hospital Association. It is organized exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes as a not-for-profit association.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of the T.O.N.E. is to advance and further develop effective nursing leadership and to facilitate quality nursing care by:
- Providing a medium for the interchange of ideas and dissemination of information.
- Providing voice to address current issues and trends that impact on healthcare.
- Promoting educational programs and learning activities.
- Acting as a catalyst or vehicle for promoting standards of care and standard of nursing practice.
HISTORY:
T.O.N.E. began as the Tennessee Society of Nursing Service Directors (TSNSD) in 1973. In 1977, TSNSD was accepted for membership in the American Society of Nursing Service Administrators (ASNSA) later to become the American Organization of Nurse Executives (A.O.N.E.). The name was changed to Tennessee Society of Nursing Service Administrators in 1982 and to the Tennessee Organization of Nurse Executives (T.O.N.E.) in 1985.
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY:
Full members are registered nurses licensed in Tennessee who are:
- Holding an organizational role of administration/management who are accountable for strategic, operational, and/or performance outcomes in sites where health care is delivered.
- Faculty in graduate nursing administration programs, including deans and directors.
- Consultants in nursing administration/management practice.
- Persons employed by JCAHO.
- Editors of professional nursing journals.
Associate members are registered nurses licensed in Tennessee who are:
- Students enrolled in relevant degree program with a career path in nursing administration.
Honorary members are individuals who were past presidents of T.O.N.E. regardless of their current work positions as well as retired T.O.N.E. members. Full members who, because of change in position, unemployment, or relocation to another state, or who do not continue to meet the criteria for full or associate membership, may extend membership eligibility in their current membership category for one renewal period.
ACTIVITIES:
Councils meet regularly in six regions across the state. Council chairpersons and elected officers for the T.O.N.E. Board. Local networking and educational programs are regularly held along with a Spring Seminar brought to all regions. The annual meeting is held in conjunction with that of THA. T.O.N.E. collaborates with other nursing/healthcare organizations and supports nursing research.
HOW DO I JOIN?
Simply fill out the membership application and send it along with a check for dues made payable to the Tennessee Organization of Nurse Executives. Mail your application and check to TONE at 500 Interstate Boulevard, South, Nashville, TN 37210-4634.
T.O.N.E. members who are employed by a THA member institution also automatically become personal members of THA. For additional information, contact THA at (615) 256-8240 and ask for the T.O.N.E. Liaison Staff Member. You will be put in touch with your local council chairperson. T.O.N.E. is an affiliate chapter of the Organization of Nurse Executives (A.O.N.E.), our national organization and encourages T.O.N.E. members to become active in their national organization.
