Winter 2005 Newsletter

We the Tennessee Chapter of the Society of Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (also known as TSHCA) send a warm welcome to you. If you are a returning member, welcome back. We have missed having you and your contributions to the Society. If you are a new prospective member welcome to a new and rewarding experience. The TSHCA is a local group with three wonderfully active regions. The East Region, Middle Region and the West Region are part of the Tennessee Society that in turn is part of the National Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy.

Here in Tennessee we feel it is important to have three regions to accommodate less travel during the year for our local members. Each region offers educational programs for advancement of healthcare consumer advocacies. Our goal is to network with others in related fields. This may be the traditional healthcare fields such as hospitals, medical centers, and clinics or the fields branching into the community health care arena such as home health, hospice and physician offices, etc. Whatever your healthcare related field, if Patients' Rights, Ethics, Patient/Family Satisfaction and Measurement, Complaint Management and Customer Service are real concerns for you and your management team, this is the Society for you.

Together we will explore our responsibilities to the patients in our care and explain their rights and responsibilities to them. We will promote autonomy and dignity of each patient and act to prevent discrimination. We will always maintain confidentiality to those served. We will always strive to be fair, objective and caring within our scope of practice, while remaining committed to our patients, their families and other individuals, we will maintain our professionalism through education and self-commitment.

As part of this team you too will have an active role in promoting our Code of Ethics and leading others to follow the Mission of our Society. Welcome to the Tennessee Chapter of the Society of Healthcare Consumer Advocacy! Your support and commitment is needed and appreciated.
