Executive

Craig A. Becker, President

Craig Becker has been president and chief executive officer of THA and its subsidiaries since August 1993.

Prior to joining THA, Becker was president of the Maine Hospital Association, serving in that position from 1989 to August 1993. He served as vice president of government relations at the New Jersey Hospital Association from 1985 to 1989.


Government Affairs

Michael D. Huggins, Senior Vice President and COO

Mike Huggins is responsible for all government relations programs, including advocacy and lobbying activities.

Beth Berry, Vice President, Government Affairs

In addition to her advocacy duties, Ms. Berry is responsible for fundraising activities for the Friends of THA political action committee (PAC).


Federal Relations

Marilyn Yager, Director of Federal Relations

Ms. Yager directs THA's advocacy and lobbying activities in Washington. THA members may contact her at (202) 756-3341 or myager@alston.com


Information Services

Mary Layne Van Cleave, Senior Vice President

Mary Layne Van Cleave is responsible for the development and implementation of health information systems and computer networks that assist THA members in meeting their development and strategic planning needs. Services include:

  • Development of data and presentations to support THA advocacy positions and THA member hospitals;
  • Management of the THA Health Information Network, which provides data products and services that enable THA members to better understand their clinical and financial operations and market conditions.

Clinical & Professional Practices

Chris Clarke, RN, Senior Vice President

Chris is responsible for clinically-related activities and supervises the Center for Workforce Development in Tennessee. She works with the Tennessee Board of Nursing on nursing issues and with government agencies on other healthcare issues such as unusual events.


Legal

Michelle J. Long, Senior Vice President/General Counsel

Michelle Long is senior vice president/general counsel at the Tennessee Hospital Association. She provides legal assistance to the membership in the areas of TennCare, commercial health insurance relationships, Medicare and other health-related areas, and serves as legal counsel for THA.

Prior to joining THA, Long served as executive director at the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission. She also served as legal counsel and deputy legal counsel to the governor during the Sundquist administration, an attorney at Blackburn & McCune (formerly Blackburn, Slobey, Freeman & Happell, PC) in Nashville, and deputy attorney general for the Alabama Department of Human Resources.

She received a bachelor's degree in economics at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, and a law degree at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.



Accounting

Donna Dickens, Chief Financial Officer

Donna serves as CFO for the association with oversight responsibility for internal accounting including preparation of monthly financial statements, annual budgets and working with staff relative to their financial status during the year and other necessary activities that will provide the CEO critical information as to the financial position of the company to allow him to make recommendations to the board on various financial matters.



THA Solutions Group

James L. Goodloe, Senior Vice President

Mr. Goodloe came to Solutions Group from the Baptist Health System of East Tennessee. He has over 21 years of experience in healthcare, and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Samford Univerisity, and a master’s degree in health administration at the University of Houston/Clear Lake.

James E. Byrd, Vice President

As the most tenured member of Solutions Group, Mr. Byrd has over 28 years of experience in healthcare. He has served as a management consultant with THA and Solutions Group for the past 21 years. Mr. Byrd is a charter member of the Tennessee chapter of the Hospital Information Management Systems Society, and a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and Tennessee Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

He has a bachelor’s degree in management from Middle Tennessee State University.


Education

Jeannine Briley, Vice President

Jeannine Briley plans and organizes educational programs for THERF, The Tennessee Hospital Education and Research Foundation, a non-profit corporation operated by THA. She also coordinates all THA sponsored events, such as the THA Annual Meeting and Summer Conference.


Finance

David H. McClure, Vice President of Finance

David McClure serves as a financial resource to THA member hospitals as they address governmental and commercial innovations in managed care, with particular emphasis on TennCare issues. He also assists in the development of effective review and analysis of TennCare reimbursement issues, including strategic recommendations for maximizing program benefit; analysis of risk-based programs with strong orientation to actuarial soundness; financial performance of commercial and government contracts; and employer demands for cost control, claims management and coordination between health plans, managed care organizations and hospitals.


THA Home Care Alliance

Michael A. Dietrich, Executive Director

Michael A. Dietrich serves as THA's liaison to all home care and hospice members. He is responsible for recruiting new members, staffing THA's home care constituency section, and monitoring federal and state regulations and policies regarding hospice and home care.


Rural Health Services and Workforce Initiatives

Bill Jolley, Assistant Vice President

In addition to THA's workforce and staffing initiatives, Bill is responsible for promoting rural health in Tennessee through advocacy, education and related forms of specialized technical assistance for rural hospitals. A primary focus of Rural Health is the Critical Access Hospital (CAH) program.


Communications & Marketing

Beth Atwood, Director

Beth Atwood is responsible for all membership communications, including weekly, biweekly and monthly newsletters, annual reports and membership directories. She also is responsible for all photography, news releases, other written materials and advertising.
